Thonet S285
Marcel Breuer was way ahead of his time: his elegant and compact design from 1935 fits perfectly with our modern lifestyle and work style.
Marcel Breuer's sleek tubular steel desk S 285 is a successful example of the Bauhaus' aim for a new synthesis between art and technology. The qualified carpenter quickly got a grip on the new steel pipe material. In addition, he took advantage of the experience he gained in interior design. The table top and drawer unit made of lacquered or stained wood blend harmoniously into the bent steel tube frame. The supporting construction consists of a curved line and it looks as if the sleek wooden elements float in it. With its clear design language and sleek design, the S 285 symbolizes the movement that has become known as the 'New Business'. Thonet still produces this striking piece of furniture in various variants.
